Operation of Dallan laser cutting systems

Unprecedented flexibility.

The Dallan laser cutting lines, like the punching systems, have a compact layout with a range of technological solutions designed to achieve maximum levels of production and flexibility: in fact, with these systems the decision whether to produce from coil or standard sheets up to 14 metres in length can be made at any time.

The layout of the Dallan laser cutting systems is shown in detail below:

1. Decoiler

As with the punching lines, also in these systems the decoiler acts as raw material storage system. The machine can work for hours and even days after loading just one coil, depending on the type of product, the thickness of the material and the size of the lots.
This type of solution, when producing parts of the same width and thickness, allows continual use of the material without ever having to stop the work cycle.

The decoiler is available with single or double mandrel reels to reduce coil changeover times and is available in various configurations and capacities according to production requirements. Accessories, such as coil cars/cradles and built-in pinch roll, are also available to make coil loading and payout easier.

2. Straightener

The material wound into a coil acquires a curvature that must be corrected before payout of the material into the machine. The Dallan RD straightener/ flattener removes this coil set thanks to the action of a set of staggered rollers on 2 planes bringing the material into the plastic state when it can be straightened.
Low quality materials sometimes require the correction of different curvatures, such as camber, crossbow or edge wave. In these cases a leveller is necessary, which is a machine with a greater number of smaller diameter rollers. This type of machine is more expensive than a simple straightener/flattener and is necessary only in a limited number of practical cases.

3. Sheet feeding roller table

A motorised roller table for feeding standard size sheets is placed before the LXN laser cutting system. The roller table is mounted on guides so that it can be moved away when processing coils and brought back to the working position when working with sheets.

The sheets are loaded manually by the operator or by an automated system and are fed automatically into the cutting area.

4. Laser cutting area or combi punching/laser cutting system

This area includes the coil punching machine or the coil laser cutting system, which cut and notch products. Each Dallan cutting system has features suited to different applications, thereby offering customised output and flexibility.
Different technologies for working sheet metal are available in the Dallan portfolio, such as the hydraulic and servo-electric punching machines, perforation lines, fibre laser cutting systems and combined punching/laser cutting lines.

A common feature of all Dallan cutting technologies is that the net processing time is the effective processing time, since the loading and unloading time is reduced to zero. This is one of the factors that makes the Dallan coil-fed production technology the fastest on the market.

5. Unloading systems

The Dallan coil processing systems can be incorporated into production lines or used as stand-alone machines.

In the first case the Dallan punching machines and laser systems are used in a line with roll-forming machines, panel machines and manual or robotic folding/bending machines.
As stand-alone machines the Dallan systems are integrated with various stacking systems.
The most popular unloading system is the trapdoor unloading table, which consists of two sloping surfaces making the product fall and at the same time directing it towards the centre above a height-adjustable hydraulic table.
The Dallan Smartbatch system with lateral discharge is used for the largest panels and is also excellent for products requiring a lot of machining as well as for sheets to produce nested products.

When many different shaped products are to be obtained from a coil, then robotic unloading and palletizing systems are used that are connected to the programming software.
